Workshop descriptions:
“Culture, Creativity & Action: Youth Empowerment Through Self Expression.”
Workshop time: 1 to 2 hours, suitable for small to large groups.
In this workshop Dine’ (Navajo) siblings Jeneda, Klee and Clayson, aka the internationally touring and award winning punk/rock trio Blackfire, discuss and demonstrate how cultural identity and creativity are the most powerful tools that young people have.
Blackfire shares the traditional Dine’ Hoop Dance, acoustic songs addressing historical and contemporary issues facing Indigenous peoples such as substance abuse, suicide, depression, domestic violence, and more with stories of political activism and interactivity. Blackfire connects the personal and political in a way that has a lasting impact.
“Culture, Creativity & Action: Youth Empowerment Through Self Expression.” (Extended workshop)
Workshop time: 5 to 10 hours (1 full day or two days), suitable for small to large groups.
In this workshop Dine’ (Navajo) siblings Jeneda, Klee and Clayson, aka the internationally touring and award winning punk/rock trio Blackfire, discuss and demonstrate how cultural identity and creativity are the most powerful tools that young people have.
Participants in this workshop collaborate to create a self produced publication in the form of a “zine”. Making a ‘zine involves hands-on participation and collaboration that teaches young people how culture, creativity and resourcefulness can be powerful tools of communication. This workshop also focuses on media literacy and independent media making with music, film and web and print publications.

“Protecting Sacred Sites: Cultural Survival, Environmental Justice & the Struggle to Save the San Francisco Peaks!”
Discussion time: 1-2 hours, suitable for small to large groups.
In this interactive multimedia discussion, Dine’ (Navajo) siblings Jeneda, Klee and Clayson, aka the internationally touring and award winning punk/rock trio Blackfire address the challenges and successes in the struggle to protect the San Francisco Peaks, a mountain located in Northern Arizona which is held sacred by more than 13 Indigenous Nations.

“Indigenous Action Media Justice Workshop”
Workshop time: 3 hours, up to 30 participants.
What is Media Justice and why is it necessary? From preparing news releases to staging media events, this comprehensive workshop provides participants with all experience levels fresh and tested skills to establish and maintain an effective media campaign to get news coverage for their communities issues.
