Hey! So its been months and months since ive posted anything here. Now I'm dusting off this keyboard and punching out words.
We took over 3 months off - aside from a few shows here and there and a short tour in California - to work on the San Francisco Peaks issue, which we care deeply about. My brother, sister and i have been involved in the struggle to stop Snowbowl for almost 10 years now. We recognize that there are a lot of issues, which to varying degrees we also have and continue to volunteer our time, but we see sacred sites like the Peaks, Mt. Graham, the Black Hills, Yucca Mountain, and many others as direct representations of cultural identity and cultural sovereignty. Without the integrity of these sites protected, our cultural survival is in the balance.
Im sure you've also seen that i released my documentary, "The Snowbowl Effect". This project alone took about two years to produce, including days of sleepless nights editing. We just pressed about 1,000 DVDs which should be available online soon. All the proceeds from the video are going into making more and any additional money goes into the Save the Peaks campaign & Indigenous Action Media. Additionally, i'll send anyone who wants to organize community screenings a free copy.
On June 28th (July 25th in Europe) we are releasing a Dual Disk DVD/CD with a company called 5.1 Entertainment and Aloha Films (No, we haven't sold our souls to one of the 5 majors). The whole thing is part of a Warped Tour series called, "Beyond Warped". The disks include a High Definition documentary with live footage of us on the Warped Tour, live audio from the set, and lots of specials features! We worked our butts off to make sure there was some cool additional content. For the first time you can have (crap i sound like a sales person) our music video for "It Aint Over". We also threw the Ramones tribute tracks we did for "Todos Somos Ramones", the Argentinean tribute album and I managed to edit a 36 min documentary that we dubbed, "Blackfire: Beyond Borders". This short documentary is sort of a supplement to some of the missing blogs from this site. We go from Africa to Europe and Mexico, there's some cool concert footage in there.
We have also been conspiring with producer Ed Stasium on a new full length album. We have recorded two tracks already and are preparing to do the rest over the summer. Its really a cool connection that we made randomly through the Ramones tribute album that It turns out that Ed Stasium mastered. When we were playing in Durango we connected through an awesome band called, "History of...", turns out that Ed is based out of the area and they were recording with him. One thing led to another and now were recording!
I type this in France, at our friends in the band Lojo's place. They are one of the coolest bands; solid, circusy, utterly creative and original (www.lojo.org). We are diving into a month long tour here, then we head back briefly to do a film festival that we are helping to orchestrate in Flagstaff, then to the east coast for a short tour, into the studio and back to Europe in August.
Peace! Klee
